Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Frequently Asked Questions

Here at Great British Walks our priority will always be the safety and well-being of our customers and staff. We understand the recent outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19) will be on everyone’s minds, and we are here to offer help & advice.

We have put together some additional temporary T & C’s for the duration of the outbreak, along with some options for our customers. We also offer some answers to frequently asked questions, and reserve the right to make changes as appropriate.

Q.  How might Coronavirus affect my trip?

At this time there are no travel restrictions within the UK. Should this guidance from the FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office) change, we will contact you with further advice.

The FCO has 3 levels of travel advisory warning;

  1. No travel restrictions

  2. Advise against all but essential travel (to a specific region or country)

  3. Advise against all travel (to a specific region or country)

If you are travelling from abroad to the UK, you should of course monitor advice given by your own authorities and airlines.

Q.  Will my holiday go ahead?

Yes, at this time, all of our holidays are currently going ahead.

Q.  If travel restrictions change, what are my options?

This will depend upon your holiday start date, but could be either postponement or cancellation. Great British Walks really appreciate the continued support of our customers, and the following temporary additional T & C’s will be in place for the duration of the outbreak. For our standard T & C’s please see further down this same page.

Q.  Can I cancel my holiday?

At this time there are no travel restrictions within the UK. Our holidays are currently going ahead and so our standard cancellation policy still applies. We have made a few temporary changes to this as follows, and shown in italics:

Should you cancel your holiday 56 days (8 weeks) or more before the start date of your holiday, you will lose your deposit only. We shall, however, add a £25 credit note, per person, to your account toward your next holiday. This credit note will be valid for 12 months.

Once your balance has been paid, and should you cancel your holiday between 29-55 days before the start date of your holiday you will be refunded 50% of your balance payment. We shall, however, add a £50 credit note, per person, to your account toward your next holiday. This credit note will be valid for 12 months.

If your balance has been paid, and should you cancel your holiday between 8-28 days before the start date of your holiday you will be refunded 10% of your balance payment. We shall, however, add a £75 credit note, per person, to your account toward your next holiday. This credit note will be valid for 12 months.

If your balance has been paid, and should you cancel your holiday less than 8 days before the start date of your holiday, no refund can be made. We shall, however, add a £75 credit note, per person, to your account toward your next holiday. This credit note will be valid for 12 months.

Q.  Can I postpone my holiday?

Normally we do not offer postponement of holidays. We have made this temporary change for our customers benefit to provide some leeway during this unprecedented situation. As there is no further financial commitment necessary until your balance is due (8 weeks/ 56 days before your start date), we would suggest you wait till nearer the time, this will allow you to make a decision based on more up to date information.

At this time there are no travel restrictions within the UK. Our holidays are currently going ahead and so our standard terms and conditions still apply. We have made a few temporary changes to this as follows, and shown in italics:

If you would like to postpone your holiday:

Holidays can only be postponed if the start date is 4 weeks or more away. Unfortunately, after this time we will need to treat it as a cancellation.

Holidays with start dates of 4 weeks or more away can be postponed subject to a £100 per person additional deposit, payable at time of postponement.

Where Great British Walks have paid non refundable deposits to accommodations on the original booking, those costs will need to be paid by you at the same time the £100pp additional deposit is paid.

Postponed holidays will be valid till 2021.

All previous payments made for your original holiday will be transferred to the new booking, should the booking remain the same.

Should the number of walkers change in your postponed booking, then deposits/ balances for non-walkers will not be transferrable.

Previous deals/ offers cannot be used.

Your new holiday will be subject to any price increase.

Q.  Can I delay payment for my holiday?

Your final balance payment is due on the date provided on your original booking. We are not able to delay this as we have commitments to accommodations and other service providers that we need to meet.

We reserve the right to cancel holidays where final payment has not been made by the due date. In this instance a request for a postponed holiday will not be accepted.

Should you have any underlying health issues, we recommend you discuss your travel plans with your doctor in good time. Holiday insurance is essential, and your responsibility. When arranging your insurance, we advise you check your insurance policy thoroughly and make sure it covers everything you require. The above terms and conditions are temporary, and we reserve the right to change/remove them as the situation with Covid-19 changes.
